The Day I Dared to Apply to Pokémon LATAM

They say companies don’t exist to fulfill your dreams, but every once in a while, you let yourself imagine what if?. For me, Pokémon LATAM is one of those dream companies, one of the few places I’d love to work with all my heart—right up there with Tag Heuer, Chanel Beauty, Sophia Webster, and Porsche.

When I came across the opportunity to apply for Pokémon LATAM, I knew the odds were against me. The role was based in Mexico, and I’m all the way in El Salvador—a long shot in every sense. But I couldn’t resist. Like Pedro Calderón de la Barca wrote, “los sueños, sueños son”—and I dared to dream for just a moment.

In this post, I’m sharing the cover letter I wrote for that application. It’s more than a letter—it’s a little piece of my heart and a big leap of faith.

Hiring Team
The Pokémon Company International
Mexico City,

Dear Hiring Team,

When I first met Professor Oak on my Game Boy Color at the age of eight, little did I know he would set me on a journey that would shape my childhood and my professional ambitions. From battling with my Charmander on Pokémon Red to earning the trust of a fiery team as a Sr. Manager, my journey has been fueled by the same spark: passion, strategy, and an unyielding belief in leveling up—both in-game and in life.

I’ve been a Pokémon Trainer for over two decades, starting with the original Blue, Red, Silver, and Crystal versions. I now proudly stand at Level 42 in Pokémon GO as a loyal Team Valor member. (In the darkest night, we are the flame, after all.) My Pokémon TCG collection boasts 190 carefully curated cards, and my heart has always burned brightest for Fire-type Pokémon—though I’ll admit to a soft spot for the majesty of Dragon-types. Charmander has always been my starter of choice, embodying the fiery determination I bring to every endeavor. And now, the opportunity to bring that same determination to this role excites me more than my first shiny encounter.

Professionally, I bring 16 marketing experience across education, pharmaceutical, beauty, luxury, technology, BPO, and services industries, with a proven track record of creating and executing successful 360° campaigns. I’ve managed cross-functional teams, partnered with external agencies, and utilized audience segmentation tools to drive strategy and results, ensuring KPIs aren’t just met but exceeded. Having worked extensively across America, including in key markets like Central America, México, and  EEUU, I understand the nuances of connecting with diverse audiences while staying true to a global brand’s ethos. From launching products to sustaining brand momentum, I thrive in fast-paced environments where adaptability is as essential as a Full Restore in battle.

The Pokémon universe has taught me invaluable lessons: the importance of strategy, the thrill of discovery, and the power of forging connections. These lessons mirror the skills I’ve honed in my career: building relationships with stakeholders, analyzing data to inform decisions, and leading with creativity and empathy. While my Pokédex isn’t complete, my dedication to the brand is unmatched.

Joining The Pokémon Company International as Sr. Manager, Marketing – LATAM wouldn’t just be a career move but the culmination of a lifelong journey. I’m ready to bring my passion for Pokémon and marketing expertise together to create campaigns that engage and delight Trainers across Latin America.

I would love the opportunity to discuss how my experience and enthusiasm can contribute to the continued success of the Pokémon brand. Until then, I’ll be here, training, battling, and dreaming of the chance to turn my childhood passion into a professional reality.

Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Warm regards,

Carolina Jaime
